Creative Commons Licenses

Search free images

  • Use DiscoverUR to find free images you can re-use.

To find open access images in DiscoverUR use the Available Online and the Open Access filters on the left-hand side column, but always check the rights on the source itself. Remember to Apply the filters. Free access is not equivalent to open access, true open access allows you to re-use the image under a Creative Commons License. An image can be freely accessible on the web, and still under full Copyright protection. Check Using Images for more information on Creative Commons Licenses.

  1. Add your keyword to the search box

Buying images

Depending on the image that you need, sometimes it might be easier just to buy a photo from a royalty-free stock-photo website. Royalty-free means you will have the right to use the picture without many restrictions based on just one-time payment to the licensor. Non royalty-free models, rights-managed for example, might require you to pay annual fees or a new payment every time you use the image.
