What is LabArchives?

The University of Rochester has selected LabArchives as our institution-wide, electronic lab notebook solution. Researchers at UR can access LabArchives free of charge to manage both research labs and laboratory courses. Our team at UR Libraries’ can provide more information, help you get set-up in the platform, and troubleshoot any issues you encounter. We also facilitate regular training sessions for the platform provided directly from the experts at LabArchives.

2025 LabArchives on-site

Representatives from LabArchives will visit the university on June 25 and 26, 2025 to offer a variety of public and private trainings. The following sessions are open to everyone, registrations are not required, feel free to drop in!

Getting Started with LabArchives

New to LabArchives? This training is an essential starting point! This is a comprehensive overview of the features available in LabArchives Electronic Lab Notebook, Inventory, and LabArchives Scheduler. Perfect for new users, this session will equip you with the foundational skills to streamline your research workflows with LabArchives.

Advanced Notebook Features

Learn how you can use LabArchives to effectively manage code, scripts, and output datasets. The session will also include a review of widgets - customized HTML forms that can be used throughout the lab notebook to standardize documentation.

LabArchives Solutions for Clinical Researchers

LabArchives is aligned with the standards for HIPAA. Get a deeper overview of the notebook and dive into project management features, linking, tagging, comments, adding entries, analysis and working with large files.

LabArchives for Education

Using LabArchives in your upcoming course?  This session will highlight the key features relevant to your use in a research or teaching lab, provide tips on tailoring a notebook to your specific needs, and include time to ask questions in order to save you time and get started using the platform in your next course.

Integrations and Data Best Practices

LabArchives integrates with various Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint in addition to applications such as Jupyter Notebooks, SnapGene and GraphPad Prism. Your LabArchives notebooks can become a part of your research data management toolkit. This session will include best practices for working with and backing up your data.
