Children's Literature

RBSCP collects published American and British children’s literature, primarily illustrated works for children aged 5-11, primarily in English. Current collecting is centered on materials related to: gender, ethnicity, race, etiquette, the environment, and social engagement, all themes represented throughout Special Collections.  Holdings are strong in 19th century New England and New York State chapbooks, Mahlon Day imprints, and Stecher (local) imprints along with specific titles including, but not limited to: Cinderella, The Three Bears, Mother Goose, Bluebeard, and Aesop’s Fables.

Archival collections

We do not collect original art or manuscripts for published children’s literature, but some archival collections contain juvenalia. For example, the Papers of two local artist-architects,

Claude Bragdon and Harvey Ellis include work they produced as children.

Print/Rare Book Collections

Published works are represented in the Library catalog; search by author, illustrator and/or title.
